Of the Senses

A boy trapped in the rubble of a sweltering construction site in Karachi. A Chicago artist at the crossroads of ending a complicated marriage. A daughter on a quest to heal in a forest in Mysore. A young man at a breaking point in a cold Boston apartment.

An exhausted doctor altruistically caring for patients in a New York ICU. A woman following the trail of a familiar taste in an Asheville restaurant. A visually impaired couple struggling to understand if love is enough to overcome.

"Lara Zuberi captures vivid sensory details while weaving seven thoughtful stories showing how touch, sight, sound, scent and taste heal human hearts."

Musharraf Ali Farooqi, author of The Story of a Widow and Between Clay and Dust

"Lara Zuberi's stories-thematically organized around the human senses-are sensitively felt explorations of anguish, loss and pain. With the irrepressible instinct of a healer, she highlights the real-life efforts of blessed people to alleviate human suffering reflected and creatively interpreted in her fictional pieces."
