Mrs. Dalloway (Readings Classics)

Clarissa Dalloway is giving a party. As she makes preparations she relives her life in a continuous monologue which reveals a disturbed and unhappy woman under the guise of a lively and successful person. A war veteran, Septimus Smith, is on the brink of madness and is nearing an inevitable suicide. As the party nears its climax these apparently detached stories impalpably entwine in a masterly study of the human experience.

Mrs. Dalloway is one of the top hundred English novels of the twentieth century. Woolf s To the Lighthouse is another great work on the all important list.
