About Seerat Usman Bin Affan R.A. - Local - Dr. Ali Sallabi

Seerat Usman Bin Affan (R.A) is Dr. Ali Muhammad Al-Sallabi's biography of the third Caliph of Islam, translated into Urdu in this Darussalam Pakistan (local)…

Seerat Usman Bin Affan (R.A) is Dr. Ali Muhammad Al-Sallabi's biography of the third Caliph of Islam, translated into Urdu in this Darussalam Pakistan (local) edition. It follows Uthman (R.A) from his life before Islam through his acceptance of the message, his two marriages to the Prophet's (PBUH) daughters — which earned him the title Dhun-Noorayn, "possessor of the two lights" — his years of service under Abu Bakr and Umar, and his own caliphate up to his martyrdom.

What the book covers

Sallabi traces Uthman's (R.A) early life as a wealthy Makkan trader, his acceptance of Islam on the word of Abu Bakr (R.A), and his marriage first to Ruqayyah bint Muhammad (PBUH) and, after her death, to her sister Umm Kulthum — the basis for his title Dhun-Noorayn. It covers his financing of the Muslim army before the Battle of Tabuk, his purchase and donation of the well of Rumah to the Muslims of Madinah, and the years he spent as one of the Prophet's (PBUH) closest companions and scribes of revelation. The book then moves through his twelve-year caliphate: the standardization of the Qur'an into a single authoritative written text distributed to the major Muslim cities, the expansion of the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, the continued expansion of Muslim territory under his rule, and the establishment of the first Muslim naval fleet. The final chapters deal with the political unrest that grew in the later part of his rule and the siege that ended in his assassination while he was reading the Qur'an.

Sallabi's approach

As in his other biographical works, Sallabi doesn't just narrate events in order — he draws out what each one shows about Uthman's (R.A) character: his generosity with his personal wealth for the sake of the Muslim community, his patience through the final unrest rather than responding with force, and the precedent his Qur'an standardization set for how the Muslim world would read the same text for centuries after. Sources are cited throughout rather than presented as unattributed narrative.

Who this is for

Urdu readers who want the full story of Uthman (R.A) rather than a short summary — students, mosque study circles, and anyone building out a set of the Rightly Guided Caliphs' biographies. Sallabi has written the same kind of detailed biography for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself and for the other companions. If English works better, The Biography of Uthman ibn Affan (R.A) covers the same life in English, and Sallabi's The Noble Life of the Prophet (PBUH) 3 Vols and The Biography of Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq (R.A) continue the set.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Uthman (R.A) called Dhun-Noorayn?

It means "possessor of the two lights." Uthman (R.A) married two of the Prophet's (PBUH) daughters, one after the other — Ruqayyah, and then Umm Kulthum after Ruqayyah passed away.

Does this book cover his role in compiling the Qur'an?

Yes — it covers how Uthman (R.A), as Caliph, had the Qur'an standardized into a single written text and copies distributed to the major Muslim cities, to preserve one uniform reading across the growing Muslim world.

What does "local" mean in the title?

It's this book printed and published by Darussalam in Pakistan, as distinct from a copy imported from elsewhere.

Is this a shortened summary or the full biography?

It's a full biography at 796 pages, covering Uthman's (R.A) life before Islam through to his martyrdom, not a condensed summary.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders arrive in 3–5 working days anywhere in Pakistan, with same-day dispatch from Lahore for orders placed before 1 PM.
